‘Doctor, Doctor’ was heavily inspired by the music of the Dresden Dolls who belong to the punk - cabaret genre. When I wrote ‘Doctor Doctor’ I had only recently discovered the Dresden Dolls and was going through a solid three month listening spree of their music - exclusively! The theatrical, melodramatic nature of their music struck a chord with me. (no pun intended) Essentially, ‘Doctor, Doctor’ was about a string of bad experiences I was having at the time with a number of fairly rude and callus doctors. It had a pretty negative effect on me and as a result, I refused to see doctors for quite a number of years afterwards. However, the song itself is intended to be at least slightly humorous and extremely embellished beyond anything autobiographical. This is the only version of the song that exists online right now. I hope to record it properly at some point.
