Paul Matthews

My musical path began with classical training before leading into British rock. As a keyboardist, I’ve performed with many bands and duos, each adding new dimensions to my musical understanding. From 2008, I joined a touring Pink Floyd tribute band, an experience that sharpened my skills in recreating complex arrangements and introduced me to new audiences. Now, I play as an occasional guest with Dangerous Things, a rock and blues band in my area known for their raw energy and authentic sound.

The 2020 lockdown marked a significant shift in my musical direction, leading me back to my classical background. During this period of focused composition, I created a series called “Lockdown Orchestrations,” writing cinematic pieces that draw from movie themes and trailer music. The success of these compositions sparked something new, leading to the next and ongoing projects, “Fusion Soundscapes,” and “Cinematic Shorts’ where I blend orchestral elements with contemporary sounds.

I’ve had the good fortune to work with excellent local musicians and session singers throughout my career. These collaborations have produced remarkable results, and sometimes, to my amazement, I’ve recorded with the original artists themselves. These musical partnerships, ranging from intimate acoustic sessions to full band arrangements, are collected in “Paul & Friends Covered Heroes.”

From classical composition to rock performance, my love for creating music continues to grow. I find joy in both writing intricate orchestral pieces and performing high-energy rock shows. Each new musical project brings fresh challenges and rewards, pushing me to explore new musical territory while respecting the foundations of my training.
