NamesInABook
Kris King
Written for a song challenge. We were given the theme of a name found on an item, carved on a tree, on a street sign - whatever. Then off we raced all in our different directions, just to see where different songwriters would end up. I chose to write about a name on an inscription inside the front cover of an old book.
Lyrics:
His Name In A Book
Well, we all know how the story goes, hand written heart inside the front cover,
Somebody certainly knew who he was at the time
but the pages turned over and nobody’s knows anymore
anyway I expect he made the moon dance when she picked up the book she would levitate
right through the ceiling up into the day dreaming sky
and shiver to the whisper on the skin of her arms
and every word it moved that story on
Well, we all know how the story goes, hand written heart inside the front cover,
Somebody certainly knew who he was at the time
but the page s turned over and nobody’s knows anymore
anyway I expect she made the stars fly when he gave her the book she would come to him
lay herself down on the ground in the indigo night
and he chewed on his pen as he chose the right lines
and every word it moved that story on
Well, we all know how the story goes, hand written heart inside the front cover,
Somebody certainly knew who he was at the time
but the pages turned over and nobody’s knows anymore
anyway I expect it was sent as a gift - when she unwrapped the parcel her face lit up
she curled up her feet on the window seat with a smile
caressing his name with a fingertip
and every word moved that story on
Well, we all know how the story goes, hand written heart inside the front cover,
Somebody certainly knew who he was at the time
but the pages turned over and nobody’s knows anymore
anyway I expect they were long ago dead the ink was faded, the page was dry
when I picked up the book from the dust in the box by the door
and the ghost of a love song was rising up
and every word it moved that story on
Well, we all know how the story goes, hand written heart inside the front cover,
Somebody certainly knew who he was at the time
but the pages turned over and nobody’s knows anymore
Somebody certainly knew who he was at the time

Beautiful. Perfect voice. Love the chord change at "at the time." "Indigo night," brings a tear. Thank you.
