Cardboard Cutout Clouds
A Beautiful Scene
Thank you all for taking the time to listen to this track! I’m overjoyed at how quickly it reached what I’m calling “Alonetone Gold Status” — over 250 listens! (A totally made-up milestone, but I’m claiming it anyway.)
I think this one was almost there; probably not worth posting. There are some structural changes to be made for sure. But whatever, I think I can make do as a demo and still use it as a ref track for the real thing.
Verse One
I’m burning out, I’m feeling down
I can’t explain when You’re not around
Every breath is a paper cut
I sleep in wreckage just to feel enough
These walls echo with Your name
Like it’s etched into the grain
I built home in the hollow
and set fire to the frame
Chorus
I swore I’d stop writing elegies
But grief makes a better muse than peace
Cardboard cutout clouds backdrop these skies
My smile lies louder than the pain
I laugh like I’m whole but I’m feeling drained
Every tear drops exits in disguise
Verse Two
The mirror won’t meet my eyes anymore
Even shadows don’t cast like they did before
I break everything I try to save
And stich myself with broken blame
I feel I’ve let you down again
I’m an empty space with a different name
Bridge
I prayed to nothing for so long
It started to sound like Your name
I’m not real, I’m just a ghost
Just a shell, seeking warmth
I’ve probably told worse lies
But they don’t feel the same
Am I still searching for You
Catchy as heck! Love the horn section and the bass guitar tone. Well worth the “Alonetone Gold Status!”
