Spindrifter

We set out from the harbour
Rigging’s made of twine
Seagulls laughing overhead
While the wind was of two minds
Would it blow us on to glory
Or drown us in the tide
Take us along for the ride
Would it take us along for the ride

Don’t tell us that we’re reckless
We’re bound to run aground
It’s always the unsinkable that’s destined to go down
I have no map or compass
No North Star as a guide
I could go astray at anytime

Coming through The Narrows
Was playing with my mind
Mermaids laying on the rocks
Drinking seaweed wine
Well the sky was all a fire
Then someone turned out the light
Slip away into the night
While we slipped away into the night

Don’t tell us that we’re reckless

I’m a ship without an anchor
Out here on the brine
I could go astray at anytime

Crashing through the combers
Back and forth we swayed
A heavy sky was in my mind
And the weather it turned strange
Was I ever on the water?
Or Water Street begging for change?
Waves of people rolling on each day
Not noticing us slipping away
