Uncle Joe's Jug

Well we calls him Uncle Joe and he lives 60 miles away
Walking in to town to work, the ice fills in the bay
Well I likes to get me drop of stuff, no money I got to pay
But I got this earthen jug and it won’t go astray

A quart of water in my jug
Mix it with a quart of rum
Where’s your money I ain’t none
Well nothing is free where I come from
Where’s your money I ain’t none
Well nothing is free where I come from

Well he went into the bond store
Said “A quart of rum if you please”
But hidden in his earthen jug was water from the creek
He reached into his pocket said
“Oh no silly me, me money pouch is 60 miles up past Upper Gullies

From one bond store down to the next
The same trick he would try
Until he got a quart of rum as sure as I’m alive
It was fully over proof by the time he set sail
“I’m sorry by’s I’ll pay ya back, I’ll send it in the mail”

A quart of water in my jug
Mix it with a quart of rum
Where’s your money I ain’t none
Well nothing is free where I come from
Where’s your money I ain’t none
Well nothing is free where I come from

This makes me smile immediately. Is that a recorder? A picolo? Lol. This album is tight.
