Song-writing Demo for FAWM 2025
Song number 03
Written 6th Feb
Demo recorded 8th Feb
I started this one first but got stuck in the surrealism of the opening line (it was “He” originally). I really didn’t want to give the suntan/carpet thing up. So I had to embrace my inner surrealism before I could get anywhere.
And now…. it really does mean stuff to me… but you work your own out: “I don’t know, how about you?”
West Coast Suntan - A A J Russe
She’s got a west coast suntan under the carpet
The one she wears when she’s feeling cold
The model that she paints brings his own toothbrush
She says it helps to make him feel at home
Someone holds the key
To what we want to be
All we need to do is find out who
Is it the one on the couch?
Or the one holding the knife?
I don’t know
How about you
She paints a white knight naked riding a charger
And he’s brandishing his lethal daffodil
She says the picture in her mind is somewhat symbolic
But she’s the only one who has the skill
She thinks she holds the key
To where we want to be
All we need to do is find out who we are
Am I the one in the dress?
Or the one who made the mess?
I don’t know
How about you
Instrumental interludings
There must be someone holds a key
To how we all get free
All we need to do is find out who
Is it the one who leads the pack?
Or the joker at the back?
I don’t know
How about you
Meanwhile
I love the west coast suntan under her carpet
The one she wears when you’re feeling cold
