Cold Winter Moon
Colleen Dillon
Sometimes writing a song is the very best and only thing you can do….
Cold Winter Moon
Oh cold winter moon
And the wind that blows
Bring me a change
For my weary soul
Take away this longing
That fills my heart
Something is over
Before it could start
Oh cold bright light
Fill my heart with hope
Take away this sadness
Give me strength to be bold
Don’t let my heart fill
With icy cold
Bring something joyful
To this battered soul
Oh my life has been empty
And my life has been full
Oh my heart has been broken
But it’s beating still whole
I will cry since I lost you
But I know that it’s right
Oh you cold winter moon
You can’t warm me tonight
No you cold winter moon
You can’t warm me tonight

The sad and simple tune set a beautiful tone for the more complicated poetry: “…But it’s beating still whole” is such a powerful line. It underscores the strength and courage that I admire in the piece and its creator. Brava!
Oh Man … that is beautiful. What a masterpiece! I love the Irish influence and the powerful lyrics. O U T S T A N D I N G
