This song speaks to a dichotomy I’ve noticed about the digital age. While businesses certainly have a lot to say to their customers, and use all kinds of electronic means to reach them, the same is not true of the individual. Now that we have caller ID on nearly every phone, everyone screens their calls. We can reach our friends through celphone texting, instant messaging and email on the internet, and many other electronic methods. I find that many of us don’t have that much to say. My youngest daughter often sends one word or single letter text messages to her friends. K? Sup? Yes. No. Can’t. etc etc. While I can find something to talk about with my friends, I don’t need so many ways to reach them. If they’re close enough, I’ll speak to them face to face. If not, trading e-mails or messages is good enough.

I use texting in the studio to avoid phones ringing in my mic :) Otherwise, I don't use a cell. I prefer face to face. Expressions and body language are important and can not be perceived by emoticons. Good subject to write about.

I would be much more likely to switch the call alert on my phone on, if I liked talking on it...but I guess that's a different point. :-) The only really great form of communication is non-verbal anyway. :-)
