A HAPPY SONG 032411 - COOKIES

One night this lady, unbeknownst to me, on the verge of suicide, asked me to write a happy song for her. Instead of killing herself, she left her husband. Now she’s married to someone else and is acting very happy, herself.
UPDATE: She killed herself.

She stood under the goal post on a cloudless Texas night
Looking thru her camera lens to see what she could see
Aimed ain my direction she said, “Will you write a happy song for me.”
A happy song for me

I said I couldn’t promise. “Happy songs are hard.”
I said I’d think about it and see what I could see
In my introspection what would I regard a happy song to be
A happy song for me

She said, “You know a given one and one is two.
And it can be confusing, to be or not to be.
And if the night is over the left that you can do
Is write a happy song for me.”

She stood under the goal post on a cloudless Texas night
