THAT'S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO 031811 - SOMEWHERE
Probably anyone who plays the guitar could write this song….
Someone asked if I was actually in Spain in 2003. Actually, 2000. Working on the movie, THE STONE RAFT with George Sluizer, from a book by Jose Saramago.
Inspired by something Jenni Peal said during a song circle at Half-Priced Books in Dallas back in 2011.
THAT’S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO - 031811
Capo @ 2 in C
C
My triple O (ooo) will cry out when I leave her on the wall
G
When she sees me taking Blondie to sing at Herman’s Hall
F
She knows I’ll play Solitaire and she wrote that song with me
C G
Somewhere in the North of Spain back in two thousand three
The muffled voice of Shenandoah as she curses in her case
Demands I open up right now and look her in her face
She knows that I’ll sing our song before the night is thru
And she has every right to be there and I know it’s true
G
THAT’S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO
I talk to my guitars and they talk back to me
They know what I know and they see what I see
And when we play together they know what to do
They remember all our songs and they remember you
THAT’S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO
F
It will have you talking to guitars
Blaming scars on falling stars
C G
Hanging your coat in neighborhood bars
F G
I’m telling you
THAT’S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO
I guess I’m talking to myself. That sounds like something I would do
I talk to the dogs and cats, and, of course I talk to you (7-17-23)
And I talk to pots and pans and plates and forks and knives and spoons
At that memory-laden table (table you painted) where we spent our years with you
THAT’S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO
It will have you talking to guitars
Blaming scars on falling stars
Leaving your coat in neighborhood bars
But I don’t have to tell you
THAT’S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO
THAT’S WHAT LONELINESS WILL DO
Scarlett Maneikis James Michael Taylor love the lyrics. Each guitar has a story.
Beautiful. My dear friend 💛
I dig this, and relate -- each of my guitars are convinced I love them more than the others.
What a sweet little argument with a guitar... I like this one too. Catchy tune as well.
very nice, James, really dig your writing ...quite nice story intermingled in a comforting prose...the guitar is patient.
wonderful .... love the lyric's
yeah that's beutiful written ... a wonderful song
Another lyricful gem from you JM.
I really enjoyed your song. The lyrics were great and it had a real nice spanish feel for me. The guitar has been such a special friend to me as well. Thanks for sharing.
Another wonderful song. Interesting flow from verse to verse. Nice repetitive chorus. Were you in the North of Spain in 2003 or was that just poetic license? This Alonetone sight is the best I've seen for hearing your songs.
I really love that tune James; I've been talking to my guitars for many years too.
Great lyrics J.M.T!
