IF I WRITE A LETTER TO YOU 121311 - unWANTED
IF I WRITE A LETTER TO YOU - Key of G
If I write a letter to you
Tell me who will I write to
A lover, a friend,
A beginning, an end
If I write a letter to you
If I send a flower to you
Tell me who would not go to
A friend or a foe,
Tell me, please so I’ll know
If I send a flower to you
As Time goes by it seems it just gets longer
Like some old train that’s biting on it’s tail
As weakness grows, it seems it just gets stronger
The harder I try it seems, the harder I fail
If I save my lovin’ for you
Will it help me live this thru
Tell me, please, so I’ll know
Will you let your love grow
If I save my lovin’ for you
As Time goes by it seems it just gets longer
Like some old train that’s biting on it’s tail
As weakness grows, it seems it just gets stronger
The harder I try it seems, the harder I fail
If I save my lovin’ for you
Will it help me live this thru
Tell me, please, so I’ll know
Will you let your love grow
If I save my lovin’ for you
If I sent a flower to you
If I wrote a letter to you…

Letter writing was very important to me when I was in high school
Dad occasionally required I write a letter to my grandma.
Then I got a pin pal. THEN Carolyn Opitz sent me a note in Biology class and she and I got real earnest in our missives. A letter she sent me my junior year, a poem, became my 1st song:
I’ll never want to let you go, although we’re far apart
My love will linger on, I know , and live within my heart
Some day you must return to me and start, anew, with dreams
For, only then, how right, we’ll see, were all our tender schemes
And darling, while so far away, don’t forget to send
All the words you once did say for my heart to mend
Carolyn Opitz 1958
This is another good for the happy song list, nice rhythm and a nice, melancholy, sentiment. Well done.
