THE DUST ON THE PIANO
Capo at 2 in Dm

Dm C (2)
He used to play piano because it made her smile
Dm C (2)
She could be in any room. He’d sit and play a while
F C Bb (G)Dm
He didn’t need to see her. He knew she loved it so
He’d sit and play piano. Just let his fingers go

You see, he’d been in her shoes and maybe in her heart
‘cause when he was a younger man a young girl played the part
He’d sit in secret listen as she played an evening hymn
And he’d resolved he’d marry someone who’d play for him

But to his own amazement, the girl he found to love
Didn’t (couldn’t) play piano so he learned to play for her

So, he’d got the music he’d dreamed of all his life
And he got the girl he cherished for a wife
And now the keys are silent. She left him. “Why?” Who knows
And the dust on the piano in the silent darkness grows

(C) 2008 Royal T Music

I would go home with my college room mate, Lee Wade, once in a while. He had a teen-aged sister, Wanda, that would play in the evenings. I don’t remember of I ever told her how her playing moved me or if she played at my request.

The dust, now, has been growing for 15 years. So needing a tuning it’s un[;sayable…

Tim Tandy Brilliantly haunting! Like a character in a Hank Williams song, you're telling a poignant, sad story, but NOT seeking pity.
