HAIRCUT
They sent me a letter. A ticket to ride
Portland to Frisco on that Big Overnight
Brand new clothes. New pants and new shirt
Brand new boots to kick up the dirt
They gave us a haircut and a shiny new gun
Saying, “Come on boys, there’s a war to be won.”
We marched and we chanted. We ate and we slept
We ran. We climbed. We laughed and we wept
Choking on tear gas, we cursed and we whined
Some of us lead. Some fell behind
But we were all brothers, the short and the tall
All were for one and all were for all
Come on boys let’s have some fun
Strap on your helmet. Shoulder your gun
It was a game we’d all played before
We’d put on our feathers and run out the door
Into an ambush of cowboys and sticks
Cap guns ablazin’ with those sulfurous clicks
Little red rolls with black spots of bang
We’d kill and we’d die and we’d rise us again
We were all brothers, the short and the tall
All were for one and all were for all

Sweet, sweet, sweet, (except for the war and killing part). My fav lines: "...with those sulfurous clicks/ Little red rolls with black spots of bang" Never described better! That's exactly what they were. Gwyn Henry
