ONE MORE 122211 - ONE MORE
James Michael Taylor
Key - G
People had been requesting this song for years. I decided to write it.
It’s the most requested song in Tarrant county
It’s a song that I had never heard before
But I always try to sing the songs folks ask for
and that’ for sure
And they always seem to want to hear ONE MORE.
For years I tried to find that song they a wantin’
I bought records and tapes and song books down at the store
I even called Bill Mack and asked if he would help me
And he said “Sure.” Well he played something but
He did not play ONE MORE
“Come and play ONE MORE and I’ll be happy.
Play ONE MORE and I’ll go home.
Play ONE MORE and make it snappy.
Play ONE MORE.”
Late at night, when we’ve sung our final chorus
You know, some old bum ‘ll stumble thru the door.
He’ll try to order up a beer and he’ll say,
“Hay! I just got here, so, buddy won’t you please play ONE MORE.”
“Come and play ONE NORE and I’ll be happy.
Play ONE MORE and I’ll go home.
Play ONE MORE and make it snappy.
Play ONE MORE.” 2X

This became an anthem for Texas Water at closing time at The White Elephant Saloon For some reason I don’t recall, when Peggy decided to leave me she told me not to sing this song any more. Well, she’s been gone 15 years now and I think it might be time to start singing this song again. I think the folks at The Magnolia Motor Lodge Tuesday night singer/songwriter night might enjoy it.
You sound a bit like Harry Chapin, did you know that? And just to make that clear: I love Harry Chapin! :) Regards, Steffen
One more is a reminder of why we write isn't. Always looking for the next hit..
Oh, and on a lighter note ..... This is great, love it!!
