Sonny, A Cloudy Day For Sonny
James Michael Taylor
A Cloudy Day For Sunny Am
Am G
They joke and they laugh and they smile and they
Am
sneer
Am G
They say things like, “I love you,” for Sunny to
Am
hear
Dm E
She thinks it’s a reason to give love away
Am G Am
But Sunny’s always crying ’cause they never stay
Sunny’s from Texas and Sunny is tall
Sunny gives freely and Sunny gives all
But clouds follow Sunny where ever she goes
Fair-weather friends fade and Sunny knows…
CHORUS
Am G
It must be time to move on
F C E
The boys are all tired and the fun is all gone
F C
Whose taking Sunny home
F C
Whose taking Sunny home
F E Am
Whose taking Sunny tonight
Well Sunny will smile til the smiles are all gone
Then Sunny throws bar stools and hides in the john
And no one will follow because they have learned
Sunny is so easy when Sunny’s been burned
It must be time to move on
The boys are all tired and the fun is all gone
Whose taking Sunny home
Whose taking Sunny home
Whose taking Sunny tonight

Midland used to have several steam restaurants that hired singer/songwriters, so we all got to know each other after hours. I think my first gig out there, brokered by Joe Brunell, was at the Cody Cattle company. That’s where I met Peggy one night in 1978. She had a gig at the Midland Country Club with a guy named Ronny and after my gig at Shenanigans we met there. There was THE ATTIC, SHENANIGANS, CODY CATTLE COMPANY, MONTANA MINING COMPANY…The guys talked about Sonny at Cody Cattle Company.
