Recently returned from 3 months in non-English speaking countries - decided I loved being "Lost In Translation" more than the sights and such.
Drums by Mike Watkins - everything else by me.

This is a song from a year or so again - from my CD "jiguma dreaming". It features Alf Solti on keys, Thor Oliversen on lead guitar, Anne Cozean and Jan Porter on backing vox, and me on Fender precision bass, Telecaster, Seagull acoustic, vocals…

I've been giving my Telecaster a fair workout lately, trying to get my head around some more complicated things than playing chords (which was quite complicated enough for a while there!). I want to learn how to play better, and a style I like…
This is a song I wrote with Lisa Purdy (who sings the harmony vocal) about the experience of depression. Jim Bouchard plays lap steel - I'm playing/singing the rest.
the musical mood is an unusual one right from the start
has a dark tinge, but also a humorous irony to it
that plunky up and down bass makes it special
and that slanty progression at SEEING ME THIS WAY / AND IF I CRY - totally special.
gorgeous blossoming of vocal harmony at HERE LIKE THIS.
and the slide slithers in and out with sweet sensations
to remind us we're all crazy not to be depressed.
bravo, all!

Hi Neil
Enjoyed, when I spotted your name I couldn't resist flicking the arrow and jumpin in and hearing your wonderfully produced music. Enjoy the duo singing as well. Cool slide, really enjoy how the slide is textured so well. Terrificly textured on all counts with all the instruments including of course the vocals.
Way to Go! A great pop-folk upload !

Yay Neil! I enjoy this one... great singing and lyrics of course, and what a trio... Lisa's awesome, and matches you wonderfully... and Jim's lapsteel really gives this an even-more woozy off-kilter feel, perfect! And did you do the mixing? Sounds really clean. Programmed drums?
ttfn,

Ah Yes... the consummate pro from down under... hello friend... great production as usual... your personal thumbprint... doesn't hurt to enlist Lisa's talents either....

Awesome! What a cool collaboration. I really like the dynamics throughout the song. I really dug what my parents listened to, and it has helped shaped my music (although you wouldn't be able to tell from some of my influences).
Post some more tunes!

Glad to see you on here Neil! This is a tasty track Neil (especially the guitar). My only complaint is that I would tone back the cymbal crashes a little bit. The backing vocals are great and so are the keys. Post some more songs Neil!

While my wife and I were travelling back down the coast of California (near Big Sur) from a vacation around New Years, we stopped at a turnout over a cliff, and took a bunch of video of at least 15 California Condors, flying and hanging out on…
Hi Eduard - fancy seeing you here :)
Lovely real-sounding instruments. Reminiscent of Fasching in Munich when we lived there - it seems that Peruvian music/bands were all the rage that year. You've reflected the warm but staccato feel of Andean music so well. A little too much movement between channels for me, but very effective none the less.
Cheers,
Neil
Just to set the record straight I wrote this song before the movie Wall-E came out. If you've watched the movie Wall-E my song is basically along the same lines of how humans have messed up Earth. It's not a happy song if that's what you are…
Adam,
Love the guitar line and counterpunctal vocal. Great drums. Excellent build. Has an "early Silverchair meets Jack Bruce" vibe about it. Like this a lot.
Thanks for the heads up!!
Neil
Definitely not for people in a hurry - I like the atmospheric vibe of this - very subtle instrumentally, and very relaxed as a result. You obviously have a bit of experience under your belt for this kind of music. What do you use for recording? The longer I listen to this, the more I like it.
Cool!
Neil

Somehow, this one has squeaked passed me, until now! Interesting environment for this topic. I do like it. I got the biggest impact from the lyrics.
Stellar Neil. Simply stellar! I love hearing you singing with Lisa. Beautiful. The song is simply great in all aspects!

Very catchy.
This is really catchy. I like the dueling vocals at work here.
