Song Of James
Paul Lisney
This was written about the Apostle James and what it must have been like for him during Our Lord’s Passion. He was really close to Jesus - it was Peter, James and John who saw Jesus transfigured on Mt. Tabor and they were the only ones chosen to go with Him to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane while the others waited further away.
Song Of James
Oh I wish today was yesterday
When you were here
You said Your hour had come
But I didn’t want to think that way
But I couldn’t even stay
By Your side
And feeling so afraid
Here I hide
There must be a mistake
How can You free us now?
Oh I wish today was yesterday
Bathed in Your light
On that mountain high
Glory filled our eyes, in awe we bowed
But I couldn’t even stay
By Your side
When they bound you with chains
In the dark of night
And hiding in shame,
I’m facing my weakness now
Oh I wish today was yesterday
How the people cheered
Laying down their palms
Praising God above
Your Kingdom near
But I couldn’t even stay
By Your side
When bloodied and torn
You were crucified
Something went wrong
Why would You leave us now?
Behind locked doors
We are gathered inside
Fearing death
In darkness we hide
And in confusion, we recall
The words You spoke to us all
Oh that blessed day
It seems like yesterday
When You appeared
First startled and afraid
But assurance You gave
By Your hands and side
Peace be with you
You said, My friends
As the Father sent Me
It’s You I send
Take My Word to all nations
Oh, I forgive You
James, I forgive you
James, I love you
Peace be with you
