Gramophonium
Powerlounge
A major thing, This began as I sat down to lunch and did some musing about my old wind-up gramophone, as food poisoning set in I spent the rest of the day lying in bed thinking of lyrics, getting up to type them in, throwing up, and going back to bed, roughly in a half hour cycle.
9 hours later I finally started to feel better and was able to hold down some food when I realised I’d written an epic. It’s a song about everything, even more direct now due to the Christchurch earthquake on Feb 22. Many of the lyrics refer to a similar quake we had on Sept 4 last year.
After the most recent quake I decided not to change the lyrics as they sit nicely (and horribly) in their new context.
I doubt I’ll every attempt such a long piece again, but it’s nice to know that I can if I want to.
Shades of Floyd, Beatles, Phish, and so much more... I really dig the guitar lead on this right around 9 minutes... And the keyboard lead at 12min. In fact, drums, guitar, keys, the whole production sounds great. It's quite impressive what you managed to achieve in the face of such overwhelming adversity! Thanks for sharing the story & the music...
Thanks for sharing this great back story by the way
