Full Colors Of Fall's Glory Beckon A Long Journey, And The Bittersweet Conclusion Arrives

Track four of my RPM 2026 project.
This one is definitely the most sprawling and varied of the compositions, with the highest instrument count. I wanted to tell the story of a road trip journey to get out into nature among the fall colors, which I have done many times in my life with family, friends, or solo.

With the Typhon I used a variation of the Atlas preset for the bass sound in the intro, a more nasally lead sound I called Village at the start of the slower middle section, and a strange, ethereal flute sound I called Tuatha closer to the end.
I used an interesting preset I made on my xd for some engine sounds in the faster opening section. It’s all just one press of a key and some very long modulation, with some movement of the joystick that I recorded in as automation on the Deluge. I actually used the xd for four different presets, the main one being a pad with a prominent LFO modulation that I changed the tempo on many times using the joystick. I used it for a mellow flute sound and also a favorite preset I have used on several other songs called Symphonita, which I modeled on the orchestral string sounds from Pat Metheny’s As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls which was no doubt crafted by Lyle Mays on an analog synth. For the Deluge DX7 presets I used a soft guitar and female voice for lead sounds, and a tonewheel organ in the bass range. Also from the Deluge I used multisampled vibraphone and worn baby grand piano instruments, and a couple more kits that I build up from samples I liked.

This one was definitely a challenge to mix because of how many sections there are, but I think it might have turned out better than the others in terms of instrument separation and cohesion.
