1776…a stalemate over Bostontown, Colonel Knox reminds General Washington of some cannon left at Fort Ticonderoga in upstate New York and asks if he and some hearties could go fetch them so they could have half a chance against the British…permission granted…a little snippet of how i imagined it…Noble Train was the title given to Knox and the lads expedition….I’ve made the journey from Albany…through the Bershires…to Boston; ain’t no walk in the park now…
this noble train
to the fort
Ticonderoga
we’ll find our guns
for freedon there
tho’ the winter wind…
it’s just a short march, Boys
they’re sorely needed
for Bostontown
through the rain
the ice and snow Boys
rivers cold and deep
above the mountain steep
fore we sleep
this Noble Train
got to keep it runnin’, Boys
tis’ our faith that leaps
to the land
sweet Liberty keeps
my dearest love
i’ve not been colder
hade to wade down in
the frozen water
now we must haul
our Burden higher
so many miles to go
i think i’ll fall
and never make it there at all
through the rain
the ice and snow, Boys
river cold and deep
above the mountain steep
’fore we sleep
this Noble Train
got to keep it stokin’, Boys
tis’ our faith that leaps
to the land
sweet liberty keeps
now we stand
on Dorchester Heights
our Bounty aimed
at tyranny
for the Love
of our Countrymen
ever learning
what means to be Free…
