That Look of Surprise

Pointless backstory that won’t be interesting to anyone other than me when I look back at this tune at some point in the distant future:

RPM Challenge asks for 10 songs or 35 minutes recorded in February. FAWM asks for 14 songs written during February. In 2020 in order to keep myself from going insane through COVID-19 I did an RPM Challenge every month from February through December. I planned on continuing into January 2021 and I started 7-8 songs but I never finished them. In February 2021 I had 15 songs written and (at the time mostly) recorded so FAWM was done and RPM was going to be done. I still had a week or so to go so I started thinking about maybe finishing two RPM Challenge albums. I decided to go back to my fragments of stuff from January. I dropped three of the songs and finished the other five. I rerecorded everything I had done earlier so they definitely qualify for RPM.

This song also fills the need for the RPM album as it’s a decent little rocker in 3/4 time. I’m not sure if it’s going to make the submitted album or not, but I do kinda like it.

The guitars are all Gibson ES-335 Pro into both a Vox AC15 and a Fender Bassbreaker 15. The pedals on the rhythm are just a Ryra The Klone. The leads used a crybaby wah and a Malaise Forever Black Lives Matter as well.

That look of surprise
I see in your eyes
feel that anger rise
start to agonize

to correction
bad infection
Objection

Verse 2
Obligation
to creation
subjugation
ovation

Forever
no way out
no escape
celebrate

Saved!
