Ice (2021 Version)
Quarantine Tunes Volume 6 will have the only two songs worth listening to (barely) from my botched 2009 RPM Challenge, and the only two songs worth listening to (barely) from my botched 2011 RPM Challenge. This is the first of the two 2011’s. (note, the only song worth listening to from my botched 2010 RPM Challenge is on Quarantine Tunes Volume 1).
This is the third time I’ve recorded this song and I waffled on whether or not to include it. It was actually on the dropped song list about two weeks ago, and here it is finished. Again. Originally it had acoustic rhythm guitars. It was an attempt at having a heavy-ish acoustic song. It sort of works, but I am sort of preferring it in its current completely electric form.
I think the reason I was going to drop the song from the to-do list was because the lyrics were just awful. More awful than usual. I decided it would have to be rewritten in part in order to get back on the list, and I did mostly rewrite the chorus. It’s still not good, but it’s better.
All of the guitars are my Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s through a Fender Bassbreaker 15 amp. The rhythm tracks used a Mooer E-Lady into a Ryra The Klone. The leads were a Dunlop Crybaby into the Ryra into a Wren and Cuff Super Russian.
verse 1
feel the wind blow
freeze you to the core
feel your body slow
you can’t take much more
blood feels thick
freezing in your veins
slowing down until
only ice remains
Verse 2
you’re locked inside
there is no way out
but you’re still alive
at least for now
the wind picks up
and the snow falls hard
ice closing in
ice crusing in
