Slip Away With Me
Robert James
A few thoughts on this one….
First.. does that… could it… do you think… Reggae? I wasn’t planning on that but it just sort of happened. I’m not sure how but… I think… I think I might like it.
In a spur of the moment thing, while improvising the guitar solo at about 2:26 I, without forethought, put my Les Paul into 1967 Eric Clapton’s “Woman Tone”. It doesn’t really come off, but you play on the neck pick up with the tone pot rolled all the way down. I only did it on that eight bar solo. The tone pot was rolled back up for the rest of the leads.
Vocals. I was trying to go for a… I guess… more relaxed feel? I guess. What I ended up with was a softer track with some serious pitch problems. If you’re one of those people tortured by Perfect Pitch you should avoid my recordings in general, but especially this one.
Rhythm guitar is SG, lead is Les Paul. Both used different sides of the D&M Drive and both used the Bassbreaker 15.
Verse 1 & 3
If you could listen to what I say
If you could follow me on my way
We need to go now. go far away
we won’t be back here for many days
Verse 2
If I had one wish it would be you
together with me out of the way
running and hiding we’re gone for good
It is the right thing or so they say
Chorus
I’ve got something
I should tell you
I’ve got something
That I need to tell you
I want you to
run off with me
I want you to
slip away with me now
Break
We don’t know
how it goes
we don’t know
Oh yes, nice one. Digging the tempo changes. And some excellent guitar playing. I'm never sure about EC's "woman tone" thing, seems to work best for me on an SG (possibly because of the neck pickup closer to the bridge?) ... but you got some very cool sounds out of it here... I might have to experiment again
