In memory and honor of my father, Pharmacist's Mate 1st Class (2nd Class during the battle) Wilbur Garmond Dekker, USNR/USMC (Bronze Star medal); and all those who fought for, and defended, the island of Iwo Jima; February - March, 1945 (World War Two).
The lyrics are taken directly, or are paraphrased from the words of, battle participants; including my father, though he rarely would talk about it.
In the "Trumpet of the Lord ..." part, some lyrics are borrowed from "When The Role Is Called Up Yonder" by James M. Black (1856 - 1938).
This recording is rather rough. I tried to make it sound period, as though recorded by some guys around a single microphone. There is a slide show version of this song on YouTube.
