Raining On The Cabixi
yahondu
A song that came to me when I was fishing in the rain with some of my Mamainde buddies. The Mamainde is a small endangered Amazonian tribe of 230 people in west-central Brazil. This song attempts to tell their story.
Natives on the Cabixi
How they got there – a mystery
Living on a river – they call it – the Giver
They’re the natives – natives of the Cabixi
Warnings on the Cabixi
the river growls - the people flee
No one knew the meaning of the sounds that they were hearing
Just warnings, warnings on the Cabixi
Death Rides up the Cabixi
Canoes of whitemen with disease
Bringing shiny presents - and leaving deathly silence
Death comes riding – riding up the Cabixi
BRIDGE
Surviving on the Cabixi
A tiny group – no one sees
Hiding in a Paradise – please tell me that its gonna last
they’re surviving, surviving on the Cabixi.
Raining on the Cabixi
Paulo, Davi and me
Drifting in the wonder of the river and the thunder
Today its raining, raining on the Cabixi.
Obviously means a lot to you, touching lyrics. I didn't know! Kind of puts things in perspective.
