Once of City Steve and the Neon Lights. this was my first cover.
This song is done in the style of "the rake Song" by the decemberist. yeah. that just happened.
you're a tight orchestra, one man with his own style, and a whole lot of quality. I dont mean that in the obtuse sense. I mean your sound literally retains a lot of depth.
The cover I did off Uglifruit's 2010 RPM submission. The drums are a pair of hotrod sticks, that I made, hitting my keyboard table. The "kick drum is the stick hitting the pop screen while the mic was on.
I still need to fade...
This song went through multiple iterations before coming out like this. It was a great song to play live. Did anyone catch the tip of the hat to "Fire and Rain" at the very end of the song?
That twanging sound at the beginning of the song is me putting my acoustic through an amp with all knobs on 10. Acoustics feedback at 440mhz, which is an A note. The song is in A. It kind of sounds like a high tension electrical wire.
Brian from A Beautiful Scene sent me the lyrics to his song and said "Do what you want." The lyrics really intrigued me, and I wanted the song to have the rainbow tone palette of colors and sounds that I suspect is the backdrop mentally to his…
I so want this to be the single... I don't care it is six and half minutes... It is like a showcase for every player in your band. And your bass player is getting tight and more intricate which I absolutely adore!
I wish someone told me that we were doing 90's Depeche Mode style dance songs this year... I would have joined in. You and Jarrett crushed it this year with the moody dance vibe.
Has almost a "Night Begins to Shine" vibe. Which means my kids also love it.
Gave the album a listen, this one is my favourite but I am super biased to tracks with vocals on them!
Super dark but it sounds like the art came from a real place and that is the most important thing in music. Vocals sound amazing by the way!
Whole thing sounds great Todd!
(Remastered 22/10/2021)
Here it is in all of its glory...
THIS is the song that Mrs R and I had decided was a suitable response to a request to "Upload something HAPPY, stat!!!!!!!!!"
I tried to record it back in 2013 when I wrote it…
I started writing this song in the summer (August) of 2015 and finished it recently. The bulk of the tune was there but not the words. I recorded it using a bouzouki which is tuned GDAG, low to high though I wrote it on the guitar. This is now…
The melody for this prayer came to me on Pentecost Sunday, two years ago. I didn't upload up it at the time because I wanted to sing it properly and had intended this to be a demo recording only. I was reminded of the song this morning watching…
cast aside the scenes you see
I'll help you find your voice
the future's fast as Doppler blurs
but there always was a choice
No Air Support The Sun Is Low
Up In The Skies It Refused To Grow
beware the talking screens
they persist but…
One thing I like about covers is turning a song on its head, so that's what I did with this tune from the great ABS album "The Far Side Of Paradise". I hope I made Lane proud.
Brian of A Beautiful Scene wrote an amazing tune for the 2020 A Beautiful Scene RPM record and I couldn't get it out of my head. I hope I did it justice.
(updated May 10 with a slightly different mix)
Written for the April 2020 RPM mini-challenge. I hoped for an EP and ended up with a single song. The song is largely recorded on a T25 mic I built for Brian of A Beautiful Scene as a means to test the mic. It's pretty solid if you ask me…
This song perfectly encapsulates the feeling towards writing music, especially for RPM. Even with it's light humour, it still has a weight to it that commands an emotional response for all of those who have written a catalogues worth of songs. Well done Tim!

I love this song. I had so much fun working on this with you! -Erin
Brian, your vocals are awesome
I really like this, real gem of a song. I kept thinking you'd go into a heavy section; I'm really glad you didn't. Those brittle guitars are special
ok my first comment was redundant, ha. What I MEANT to say was... tight song, I dig the way the snappy guitar plays off the female vocal. there we go.
These new songs are really strong. Keep it up!
Most excellent work, my friend! I love the 60's vibe.
Nice 80s sound. Brings back memories. :) Regards, Steffen
this is a fantastic song. funky bassline+dark guitar+rocking drums+creepy vocal+fight club theme= mind blown

I completely prefer this to my version - you've captured the feeling I failed to express. Wonderful!

That bass line is amazing!
That is some good tunage. Love the feedback, sounds fantastic!
That moment when you realize that a cover is far better than your original... Thank you for doing this Gary! It is phenomenal!
Solid tune! Love the J Mascis vibe!
Kickass version! Love a good cover of a Wilsun tune!
I think you just encapsulated my kids thoughts at bedtime. And maybe mine too.
Okay, I spoke too soon on Hiding in Plain Sight... THIS is it. Holy Hell, I think I know how Brian Wilson felt after hearing Elenor Rigby...

This sounds like a Keith Landry Cover. Oh, hey there he is!

Love that bridge, so glad you kept those guitars! Love the chatter in the end, I love this song too.
The bass line rocks! Love your mixes, everything is so clear and every part has its place!

Hauntingly beautiful. Well done!
Your music is wonderful!
Wonderful Melody to a beautiful Prayer. Thank you for uploading!
I really enjoy your vocals on this one. There is something appealing behind the synth layers with the Candace of your lyrics.
Lane says "meh" But I bet my Mom likes it better than my track, so you get points there.
Love the new mix! Nailed those "slidey" guitar parts!
