Buachaill On Eirne/The Southwind

Traditional Irish - Arranged by Doug Sparling

The last of my traditional Irish tunes for now…I learned both these tunes on my Kirk Lynch uilleann pipes when I had them - now I just play them on guitar best I can.

Buachaill On Eirne is a beautiful song and I barely do it justice. I first heard it on a record by Clannad, but the popular version by The Corrs is nice as well. I have the arrangement of this tune up on GuitarNoise.com: http://www.guitarnoise.com/lesson/buachaill-on-eirne/

The Southwind I’d never played on guitar until tonight, it probably shows. It’s a lovely old tune anyway…

One thing I’ve learned from playing barren arrangements on acoustic guitar drowning it in reverb (like some of my loops) is that it makes one a “Humble Tigger.” Maybe not so much of a “Sad Tigger, Melancholy Tigger, or a Small and Sorry Tigger,” but perhaps a tiny wee bit of a “Oh-Rabbit-I-am-glad-to-see-you-Tigger.”

Recorded September 18, 2009

Guitar 1: Martin D1, standard tuning, capo V
Guitar 2: Martin D1, standard tuning, capo V
Recorded in the kitchen on a piece of crap Fostex MR-8 mkII
Shure SM57, DMP3 Preamp, Audacity and SoundForge.

Thanks for this utterly beautiful music -and for your comments on some of my recently added stuff. I'd love to take a lesson on your honest/clear guitfiddle technique.

no problem..I just wish I had more of my families music. I'll try to get it. But I don't think anyone ever recorded my great grandmother calling on the phone..playing some harmonica...giggling, and then hanging up. lol.
