Song For A Friend

A song written for my dear old friend, Kirk Lynch, who I’ve known for almost 20 years. For those who don’t know, Kirk and I live less than an hour apart, but I swear it’s been five years since we’ve seen each other in person, which just ain’t right…

After a long week of stress, emotional turmoil and an ear that’s decided to quit working fully, I sat down in my kitchen tonight for a cathartic recording session and this little tune practically wrote itself…basically almost everything is a first take. You’re hearing a demo quality recording here because my ears are shot, so I just mixed it on the little Fostex 8-track I recorded it on. I’m going to get it mixed properly, but I wanted to put this up on alonetone now, because one, it’s good to have friends, and two, it makes me feel a whole lot better :) Enjoy…

Written and recorded September 13-14, 2009

All guitars: Martin D1, standard tuning
Melody and fingerpicking right, capo VII
Fingerpicking left, open
Strings: Yamaha PSR 2000
Recorded on a piece of crap Fostex MR-8 mkII
Shure SM57, DMP3 Preamp, Audacity and SoundForge.

It would have been nice if I had left my name with that last comment...It's Vickie Ormsby

This is gorgeous, Doug. One of your best, I think. There is a warmth and depth to it that makes you feel like you are at home and in good company. Very, very nice. Makes me proud to be one of your friends!!

Wow. And this is on a Fostex? It transcends its medium, dude. Absolutely lovely. Okay. Now record more tunes, dammit. The more I hear your work, the more I love it.

Great back ground and technical notes, very nice tune. You guys should do something together. Two of my favorite pickers in these parts. Good luck with the ear thing, be well.
