Conor Don't You Tarry-O
Gumbo
A one hour track start to finish - words music and all the faffing around at the end to get the levels right.
It’s a ghost story. So go get your cocoa now!
And a Murder ballad and a love story (but aren’t they all).
Old Conor Higgins walked in the dark
up to the mill, where the dogs don’t bark
moon in the millpond clear and stark
to speak with his gal Jenny-o
Miller’s daughter, flour in her hair
strong as n ox and dog’s beware
waiting for old conor there
watching for her honey-o
Jenny will ye marry me
I’ll love ye eternally
I swear by the moon that lies asleep
down in the millpond clear and deep
The Miller heard their voices call
climbed out of bed and down the hall
out the door and over the wall
stumbling all contrary-o
Caught young Jenny by the arm
just to keep her safe from harm
but she called out in fierce alarm
Conor don’t you tarry-o
Conor will ye marry me
I’ll love ye eternally
I swear by the moon that lies asleep
down in the millpond clear and deep
I went for a walk with Old Conor Higgins
white as a ghost and my pulse quickens
if he speaks I’ll run like the dickens
away from the mill so eerie-o
That old mill lies in a ruin
he walks out when troubles a brewin
calls for Jenny in the rocks all strewn
round the millpond dreary-o
Oo-hooooh-hooooh! Classic Gumbo brilliance. (You're accompanying tonight's dinner party, by the way.)
