WRITER'S BLOCK 032115 - CIRCLE OF NO REGRETS
WRITER’S BLOCK
I went out to the stockyards last night. I don’t get out much but I had an invite.
My buddy, Guthrie Kennard was playing.
The place was full. The band was tight. Whitney Raquel opened the night
And the kids from the 2500 Club were out in all their their colors
There was a girl, she was sitting on a stool. Feet all propped up looking real cool.
She said she come up from New Orleans. Said she’d come to Fort Worth to be in a band.
Had a brand new guitar man. Said she was a songwriter.
She started talking about writer’s block. I said, “What’s that?”
She said, “I can’t think of nothing to say.” I said, “Well, you just said that”
Then she said, “You can’t rhyme that with that.” I said, “I can’t?”
Maybe she writes better songs then me.
And as I exited the White Elephant Saloon this pretty blond says “Hey. Hi.”
And then she gives me a big old hug and then she says, “Good-bye.”
Her boyfriend he just stood there. This was all news to him
I don’t know if she actually knew me.
Then on down the sidewalk this big black guy says, “You have some spare change?”
I handed him two dollars.
It reminded me of what that girl said about writer’s block
I think I’d just walked one…
Well, you never say no if you can say yes. You never count a fish til it’s landed
You never pass up a big old hug or leave a beggar empty-handed…
