TROJAN
TROJAN capo @ 3 in C
(C) When mommy and daddy live two thousand miles from each other it’s hard on the (G) kid
He can’t hold both their hands but he must stand between them and you know it’s for nothing he (C) did
And you (F) know it’s for nothin
And you (C) know it’s for nothin
And you (G) know it’s for nothin he (C) did
Am F C
So he climbs on a horse that his daddy named Trojan
G C
and he rides like there’s some place to go
Am F C
And he thinks about Mommy and Daddy together
G C
and the eyes in his face, how they glow
(Turnaround)
He says, “Come on Trojan. Let’s go and get Mommy.
There’s 2000 miles left to go,
And if you know my Daddy, he’s getting things ready.
Come on now, you’re going to slow.”
And you know it’s for nothin
And you know it’s for nothin
And you know it’s for nothin , you know
And he talks to the horse that his daddy named Trojan
And he talks like there’s someplace to go
And he talks about Mommy and Daddy together
And the eyes in his face, how they glow
(Turnaround)
Trojan said, “Listen, Kid, things aren’t that simple
Besides, I’m not young any more
So quit kicking’ my ribs in and go sing to your mommy.
Go, now, you’re making me sore.”
And you know it’s for nothin
And you know it’s for nothin
And you know it’s for nothin, no more
He climbs down from the horse that his daddy named Trojan
Like a child who has been here before
And he sings about Mommy and Daddy together
She rolls her eyes as he walks thru the door
Repeat Verse 1 and chorus (2)

My youngest brother Joe Ray had a kid named Joe Ben. Joe was a fancy jumper/trick pilot. Of course, he’s dead now. Joe Ben was named after the character that drowned in SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION.
Lee, I just dialed up TROJAN. By the time I read the 1st four lines I was crying.. Maybe, after all these years it a lot deeper than back when I wrote it.
I just came across this one, nicely done and and it's one you might consider adding to the jam rotation. We all know the kid in this song and everybody loves a horse song.
You know what, I still get that Harry Chapin vibe from your song (and voice). And I LOVE Harry Chapin! This is another very, very good song, and a perfect performance.
I have always thought this song superb; also, I think it has great potential for "popular" success. It is such a relevant song in today's world. I personally love JMT's own cover, but I have always wondered why some female singer, with "tears in her voice", didn't give this song a try?
