this is the first song I wrote for my wife. it is an actually step by step of our first date.
she opened the door and stood there smiling
this exchange between us lasted forever
so i took her in my car and went to eat some vietnamese food
got back in my car and went to a little bar
it was noisy we had a couple of drinks
went back to her place and opened a bottle of wine
and then i kissed her, or rather, she kissed me
i don’t know how long it lasted
and i’m not sure my head was clear
i’d forgetten where i came from
and all the places that i had been
and every single kiss that i’d had before
and every bad relationship was swept out her screen door
later on as lay upon her quiet little bed
her cat come up and purred along with us
i was feeling all my years and a thousand butterflies
before the night was over i finally realized
this is what i’d been looking for my entire life
she’s the alpha and omega
she’s the reason i’m alive
and someday when we’re older look back upon that night
and laugh and smile
and remember
our love at first sight
