THE WALK - BLACK HORSE SALOON
James Michael Taylor
THE WALK
I drove 400 miles that night
East of Dallas to Abilene
And the hopes that I held in my headlights
Were hopes like I’d never seen
She called me from work that afternoon
She said she’d be off about 2 AM
Said it would be nice if I’d come out and we could go for a walk
So, I filled up my gas tank
and headed West…
I arrived about the time she got off work
Walking down this dirt road with ruts in it
Holding hands across
She hopped into the rut behind me
When we got back to her place I got my camera out
I took a picture of her leaning on the car
She smiling. The moon shining golden in her hair…
I drove 400 miles that night
I got back about 6:15
And the hopes that I held in my headlights
Were hopes like I’d never seen

Robert White Beautiful Song James Michael Taylor! Like a Ballad! Thanks for Sharing!
Jim Farmer I love that you let the quirky idea it's based on never take over your personal/conversational idea, yet you keep that quirky idea alive the entire song. You have a knack for writing very descriptive songs with twists like that.
This reminds me just a tiny bit of Neil Young, at least some of it. Regardless, It's awesome
Audience demands a country album.. Great song James/Bill
Wow! She must be special! Lovely tender song. Surprising and effective chord change in the middle. I think you got back a bit early! Lovely melody James! Bethan
Sweet, sweet song, beautiful lyrics.
I feel like I was there with you. I like the modulation when you were in the rut. So . . . . Was it Worth the trip?
