Visit to an American Cemetery
While on our European journey last summer, we stopped at an American Cemetery in between Venice and Florance Italy. It was a gray wind swept day, long rows of white crosses ran across a deep green grass field. I have read a bit about the allied campaign in Italy during the second world war, brutal, angry, devastating, the cost of freedom, played out in the lives of so many young men who now rest here so far away from their loved ones… that there can be honor amongst such horror was seen here this day, this is a small tribute to those of another generation,, ps and yes this is re write of a piece i did last year… final entry for my rpm 2014 “my journey to the old World” richard
Wow! Brilliant and beautiful. Great atmosphere, tasteful, fitting. It took me in. Thanks for this touching, moving tribute.
Perfect atmosphere Rik! I went to the cemetery above Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. Devastatingly sad! Cheers Bethan
Very sad isn't it? Makes you reconsider everything.... Another good one.
Another beautiful piece. Sounds like you had a great European vacation. My Father In Law was stationed off Italy during World War II.
