A moody solo acoustic thing that I came up with playing in a long forgotten tuning. Just got a new Zoom H4N, so this was recorded in my shop sitting at my reedmaking bench may 12 2009

The original mix (on the RPM '09 album) was drenched in mic hiss. I used noise reduction to remove about 2/3 of it for this version (it didn't seem right to remove it completely). I roll off the noise reduction at the end for the au naturale outro.

I made a song out of the fable "The Boy and the Schoolmaster" by Jean De La Fontaine, that french writer from the 17th century. And here's the story: " A boy, that frolicked on the banks of Seine, Fell in, and would have found a watery grave…

At the end of 2003, I was recording a bunch of covers in my basement in Portland, Oregon. This was the only original recording from that time. I was pretty bummed out at the time...

Love for a former partner... Recorded at the same time it was written. Totally raw and unpracticed but I think the feelings come through anyway.
