THE LEAP

Well, a man took a walk down a trail with his buddies. Everybody came along.
And they came to a cravis with a pumas at the bottom and he was singing this song
“Well, you can go back or you can leap forward, or you can leave it up to your friends.
But I’ma gonna warn you here and now, you’ll be alone when the story ends.”

So, here he was with all of his buddies, having to make a choice.
Was he gonna leap across, go on with his journey? Was he listening to the voice?
“You can go back or you can leap forward, or you can leave it up to your friends.
But I’ma gonna warn you here and now, you’ll be alone when the story ends.”

Yes, I said, “I can warn ya…but it ain’t gone do no good, no how.”

My friend, Rick Babb was telling me last night that THE CANDLE IN HER DADDY’S EAR
didn’t work for him. That’s what got me to thinking about THE LEAP today.
There are leaps in my writing that some people are capable of taking with me.

So I had this picture in my mind that reminded me of the story by the Smothers Brothers about the Cravass and the pumas.

You can see this routine here:

Each time we make a leap we risk losing some of our friends. Too many Leaps and we end up alone.

love your wit and your writing skills - both lyrically and musically - you put me in mind of John Prine a bit.
