He Was The Gypsy King To Me
thetworegs
I didn’t mean to turn it into a Ballad it just happened your honor
He Was The Gypsy King To Me
i sit alone thinking of my father in this empty room
and all that he’d done for me
and i sitting alone in this empty room, thinking of what my father
and all that he’d done for me
a son to father
who had lived with 11 children
in a caravan
that when the snow came they had to dig deep
ooh how hard it was so for him
for the man and what he’d become
but to me he was the king
the king of the gypsy’s to me
they called him the dirty filthy gypsy
because that what he was
he carried that with him for a life time
because that was the man that he was
he worked so hard to take those words away
but deep inside that what he was
i loved that man
although the people couldn’t see what he was worth
i cant believe to this day that he he is gone
he was the king of the gypsy’s to me
he was the king of the gypsy’s to me
he woke every morning before dawn
to go out and earn his pay
he worked so hard at that job that he’d done
to try and find his way
one of 6 brothers and 5 sisters
he was a man who was strong
i remember his body looked like a panther
about to strike down his prey
the way he moved
was a man that knew
the sign of weakness would only do him wrong
but to me he was the king
to me he was the king of the gypsy’s to me
to me he was the king of the gypsy’s, to me
he worked so hard to bring home his hard earn’t pay
just to pay his way
every three years he bought a brand new car
to say to the world
look what i’m worth
i never appreciated his life
while he breathed
but since he’s been dead i’ve come to understand every word
every word he said to me
oh he was a king of the gypsy’s
oh he was a king of the gypsy’s
oh he was a king of the gypsy’s to me
while my life drifts by, on a cloud up so high
i suddenly realize what he be
that man to me was a king
and i am proud to know him for what he be
that man was the king of the gypsy’s
that man was the king of the gypsy’s
that man was the king of the gypsy’s
and my mother was his queen
people called him the dirty gypsy, that he was no good
cause they didn’t know what he be
they never realized how deep those words cut
and what they did to me
all he’s brother and sisters
they fort but they couldn’t see
they wanted what they wanted to be
but my father he could see
he knew that one day he would give life to my sister and me
for he was the king of the gypsy’s
the king of the gypsy’s
the king of the gypsy’s to me
i remember the day when the phone did ring
and my mother told me there was a cloud on that x ray
and my heart went out and i cried to myself
but outside no one could see
i remember everyday he spent with me
and everything he did say
oh that man was the king of gypsy’s
oh that man was the king of gypsy’s
oh that man was the king of gypsy’s to me
now when i think back to how hard his life was
and how hard he worked for me
everything he did. was for his family and in turn
t was done all for me
i can’t tell you how proud i am
he was a father to me
he was the king of the gypsy’s
he was the king of the gypsy’s
he was the king of the gypsy’s to me
how quick time passes by
like the blink of an eye
i remember all those early mornings in the dark
he’d come and kiss me goodbye
i was his dream
my sister and me
oh he held us so close
oh god how he loved me
he was the king of the gypsy’s
he was the king of the gypsy’s
the king of the gypsy’s to me
i can’t think how hard it must have been
to be and see what he’d seen
to be as hungry as a child he had been
oh i just couldn’t see
i was so self obsessed
right on through my teens
i could not see
how that man worked for me
he was the king of the gypsy’s
he was the king of the gypsy’s
he was the king of the gypsy’s to me
he died with a fight in his eye
of a man who had accused him of being no good
oh how that burned inside of him
oh how that burned
i wish i could of helped him
but no words could sooth
he died feeling no good
oh how that burned
he will always be the king of gypsy’s
he will always be the king of gypsy’s
he will always be the king of gypsy’s to me
oh yeah
king of the gypsy’s
king of the gypsy’s
king of the gypsy’s
king of the gypsy’s
to me
I grew up in a 51 Chevy school bus, converted into a camper, with 7 other people, an ocelot, squirrel, and rabbit. My father traveled from state to state, show to show, entertaining strangers with his music while keeping the rest of us alive and together. To me, he was the king of the hobos. He's no longer with us, but your song brought him back to life for me, for a moment. Thank you. Stay groovy!
