A Fiddle Set (arrngd. M. Hayes)
Vegetable Man
This is a live recording of a set I did with guitarist Mike Levine on a University of New Hampshire radio show. This is one of the ‘songs’ we did. It is a 5-tune Irish fiddle set that was previously done by the great Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes. I adapted it to mandolin. I love Irish music, and M. Hayes embodies what I love about it - lyrical, hypnotic, and a story arc that hits many emotions.
Back to enjoy this once again! i just got home to find a mandolin on my doorstep ( i ordered it ;-) a bit of a risk but i needed it for RPM). So it is most fortuitous to remember this magical recording. Hup!
Oh nice changes all the way through, keeps the interest going. Very well played indeed.
Great feel on this one. It's raining here in NH, this piece makes it feel more like Dún Aonghasa.
Gumbo, you are right...those are the correct song titles. I am a huge fan of Martin Hayes..and Dennis Cahill. What a combo...love the dynamics between the two. I encourage everybody to check them out.
I believe the tunes are Paul Ha'penny / The Garden of Butterflies / The Broken Pledge / The Mother and Child Reel / Toss the Feathers I turned it on and now I have to listen to the end again!
That's lovely playing there. Ah it's good to hear this. Martin was born just down the road from here, and we get to hear him play quite often. Bravo to ye for tackling this and making such a great track
