Education Reality Check
Just a rough version of a song I plan to record properly during this coming February’s RPM Challenge.
EDUCATION REALITY CHECK
I work with children every morning
Check their progress every night
I’m an expert with technology
And interactive sites
Taught your kids to pledge allegiance
To the ol’ red, white, and blue
Know all the prepositions
And by Friday they will too
I chose this profession
‘Cuz I felt I always should
Try to help your kids get smarter
Than you ever thought they could
I’ve helped them make good choices
Got them through your last divorce
Locate their belongings
And learn algebra of course
I’ve helped them organize their lockers
Taught them rules for chess and hide and seek
And this might come as quite a shocker
They see me more than you in any given week
Some will think
I’m just another idealistic fool
Or they might know ’bout teaching
’Cuz, well hell, they went to school
Some of you might like to fire us all
And wish us well
So you can teach them all yourselves
And let this country go to hell
I’ve been painted as the bad guy
But somehow I still choose
To fight the daily good fight
Despite the bastards over on Fox News
All you politicians
Think you’re so damn smart
As if your higher learning
Came from deep down in your heart
Just don’t forget
That when you’re passing budgets for you state
Who really worked their asses off
To try to make you great
So when you’re out there in the wide world
Remember anywhere you go
Who handed down their knowledge
And taught you everything you know
So if there’s anything we taught you
It’s examine all the facts
And who’s really crying ‘bout
The wealthy’s higher income tax
Those fat cats with the wallets
Have been getting you to try
To vote against yourself
And keep their money piled high
When you consider your kids’ chances
Ask yourself who really cares
About the future of your children
The teachers or the millionaires
Such a great song.. admirable ethic. a clear favourite. makes me wish I'd had the guts to stick out teaching as a career! Who knows, maybe I'll go back to it when I 'grow up' :)
Dude... This a modern day Dylan track..... Not heard a protest song like this yet about our times that hits home as hard.... I Love how matter of fact it gets towards the end. It is Good to know that there are people like you in the world, fighting the good fight.
