My arrangement of an American traditional tune with tons of variations on title, lyrics and tune. I went for a little delta feel with some light slide on the guitar, and harmonica along with the banjo... definitely strange but I think it works.
Cover of a 19th century minstrel tune attributed to S.S. Steele, popularize by the late great John Hartford. This is my own arrangement. I use it as a backing track for alive set without the banjo and lead vocal tracks.

Hello, Robert. Good tribute to the man .
He dared to break the mold(mold) from the picked banjo repertoire. You have done this up right. Most pleased and Fav'd

Very nice. Vibrant vocal and the blend of guitar and banjo is very sunny. Has me wanting to sing along in harmony. Great guitar sound on the break. Here comes the harmony...love it.
Sorry about the load up. I've got 40 CDs and I'm trying to get them all uploaded so when people want to hear a song they will all be available.

how bout a Russian living in Mexico playing a balalaika in a mariachi band drinking tequila & married to Joesph Macarthy's daughter. That would be weirder. Before I read your profile I thought this Russian sounds more American then Hank Williams Jr. Fun song. Do you ever wonder why you hardly see any brothers playing the blues on the banjo. That would be interesting don't you think ?

I was going through my song ideas folder and stumbled across this lyric that I wrote ages ago... so long ago I have no clue what inspired it. Certainly long before I ever thought up my "Banjo-centric" schtick. But this is a tune that needs a banjo…
This is an old 19h century sea shanty (or chanty) arranged around clawhammer-style banjo, with a bit of Irish whistle, faux bodhrán, and a goofy pseudo-accent to Irish it up a little. Just in time for St. Paddy's Day.
Warning: the chorus can…
Leave your best behind
They say your life is nothing more
Than the blinking of an eye
And everything you say or do
In a moment flashes by
And in the end what is left of you
Are the memories that unwind
They tell the tale of the one they…

Here is a Steve Krell song.
Buck Erpestad and I recorded live using two acoustic guitars.
Here is a link to Steve's original version : http://alonetone.com/slkrell/tracks/saskatchewanshostalconnorkrell
billy boy where did you go
sittin in a pile of snow
come on down its gettin cold
for the time is getting old
well we made our way to the old wigwam
frozen lake and wind was calm
standing bow did strike a deer
to feed the tribe…
I can't say just what it is I like about this but I do like it. Sophisticated yet primitive, world music sounds... I don't remember hearing anything quite like it.
Finally, finished this one. Its been a battle finding time and fending off a few bouts with allergies and colds etc...A very windy winter and early spring season in the desert was one of the worst in many years. Hoping to get to working on some…
"Better with each glass of wine..." yeah yeah yeah! :-D
But I have to admit... I thought I was bein' attacked by a swarm of Queen (as in Freddy Mercury) bees before I got the point about kazoo. Yeek!
Greg... you know, if u don't C# you'll Bb. Words to live by.
I gotta go.
TRUE STORY
Here comes Ernest he say how you want your eggs
Don’t matter what you say to me, don’t care how much you beg
This here is my damn place and you are just a passing through
You’re lucky just to be alive cause I don’t care about…
Me oh my! Singin' dem ol' low down Mississippi breakfast blues down on da Delta! Slippin' slide guitar... and loved the blues harp just passin' thru!
BTW- I've been to the Russian version of Ernest's Cafe. Several of 'em, in fact.
Where did this song come from?
Let's blame Steve Krell for introducing the outlaw, misfits of society theme.
It was just a laps of judgment
I should have thought it through
I swung and then I hit him
And I did it all for you
He…

Greg- the song made it's world premier tonite at the Saint Petersburg Country Club's monthly gathering and dance. (Nothing to do with golf, just aficionados of American country music.) It got the whole crowd out waltzing on the dance floor and folks really enjoyed it (they mostly understand enough English). So you are soon gonna be famous in Russia .
I had to listen to this one. I had a good friend and former band mate whom we lost about a year ago. The title of this tune was one of his favorite insults, especially delivered to drunks who'd request 'Rocky Top'. I think he would have like this.
For everybody who wanted to hear my voice!
I love rainbows. I originally uploaded this as a dedication to my Dad :)
Recorded with a £4.99 Asda SmartPrice headphone/ mic, using just the metronome you can hear ticking away there. I then…
A song about working for a dodgy builder in England called McAlpine. Because of the harsh regimented working conditions his workers nicknamed themselves McAlpines "Fusiliers". From the singing of Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners.

Nice song, nice vid. I would like the vid better if it weren't March and 20 below zero outside this morning, but hey... at least you got eagles. Me, I just got crows and magpies.

I got angels guiding me

I don’t walk that line
Seems to work out splendidly
Stop and look around

Wake up in the morning, I’m still in my cloths
I got one eye open but the other wont go
Barely can remember the night before
Except for how you threw me out the door
Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey
I think I’m in trouble again…
