My Old Guitar
Greg Connor
I just bought a new Gibson SG Standard guitar with P90 pickups. I bought it after listening to Steve Krell’s Gibson Gold Top with P90’s.
Here is my first recording with the guitar.
Lyrics:
Sitting in my living room
Sunlight will be fading soon
Wont be long, I’m calling it a day
Next to me is my old friend
I love this guitar without end
Reach for it, I pick it up and play, again
Chorus
I feel myself drifting away
Carried off in rhyme
The tune comes right in time
The evening slips on by while I play
I feel it when it’s in my hands
(It’s) Hard to really understand
Pieces of old songs go through my mind
Fingers ride on strumming strings
Words with tunes accompanying
Details of my life get left behind
Sitting in my living room
I think the Sun will be shining soon
It’s time I put this guitar away
Somehow it don’t seem to end
I put it down, pick it up again
One more song won’t matter anyway
Having another listen for that guitar sound :) Funnily enough, my SG and Explorer have swapped pickups (wonder if this had anything to do with it?). The SG has come off slightly better I think, been using it a lot last few days - slightly more, er, raucous than this, but it can do these sounds as well now.
Sweet hearts and guitars, that extra limb which grows with us until it has become us. love this one deeply Greg.
nice country piece GC, relaxing, inspiring.
WOW Greg Great Song
Sounds sweet to me, guess you needed another guitar ;) My old guitar is battered & bruised but it's still my best friend.....
Hey, everyone's getting into P90s! (Mine are in an Explorer - kind of an incongruous mix, but sounds great when when I can get up the strength to put it on!) The SG sounds FAB!! And it's a very cool song... all sentimental guitarists know exactly what you mean :)
that new SG sounds sweet!!!....My SG always rocked and never went out of tune!!!! Great song Greg ..reminds me of early Eagles
Sounds great.
I feel exactly like that,Old friend indeed. Faved and instantly loved
Sounds lovely too. Wait til it's 30 years old like my brother's. Velvety mellowness! Nice sentimental song Greg.
