I’ll tell you all a story of the mighty white oak tree
That received a bolt of lightning as it stood in front of me
The storm was just a howling, the tree trunk seemed to moan
The branches fell around me as I felt so all alone
Now I use the oak for firewood on evenings such as this
Where we sit around the campfire inclined to reminisce
I always seem to notice from the corner of my eye
I see the shadows dancing, I hear a lonesome cry
Shadows in the night, just beyond the campfire light
Shadows in the night, just beyond
This dead wood is well seasoned but seems to come alive
When the white oak gets to burning there’s a spirit that arrives
And you feel the wind right through you so you pull in nice and close
The fire reaches toward you and those shadows turn to ghosts
I was standing right there with it when the lightning hit the tree
And I moaned for just a minute till the life went out of me
I come back now and then when I see the campfire light
I burn a piece of white oak with the shadows in the night
Back for a second listen..... and about my earlier question that you gave me options for: I think it was RITA!!!!
Hey Colleen, you asked "Who did the scary cries????" There are two theories: 1. It's Rita calling me for dinner. 2. It's my world famous Elk Rut recordings that I usually play every Halloween.
I don't know how you do it. A deep well - your story telling skills.... Love this one!!! Who did the scary cries?????
