HOW
I've got a friend. He is in trouble
But he just stands there in the rubble
It seems each day his sorrows double
He needs to know. He needs to know
How do you keep your hand from shaking
How do you keep your fear from waking
How…
I CAN'T TELL
I can't tell if it's morning or evening
I can't tell night from day
I can't tell if I'm arriving or leaving
Doesn't mean a thing to me
Since you went away
I can't tell if it's sunny or raining
I can't tell if it's…
I CAN'T TELL
I can't tell if it's morning or evening
I can't tell night from day
I can't tell if I'm arriving or leaving
Doesn't mean a thing to me
Since you went away
I can't tell if it's sunny or raining
I can't tell if it's…
I CAN'T TELL
I can't tell if it's morning or evening
I can't tell night from day
I can't tell if I'm arriving or leaving
Doesn't mean a thing to me
Since you went away
I can't tell if it's sunny or raining
I can't tell if it's…

It seems our hunger to express awe is channeled
into petty things early in our life and when we break free we feel robbed because all the mighty expressions are tied up in silly stories about some jealous being making contradictory demands…
When you come to the end of the road
and all of the signs just say "No"
You never say, "Quit"
Cause that's not your bit
You're not a pup
You never give up...

Like it. I get the Glen Campbell vibe too.
I kinda like how the song is quite relaxed but the bass line is steaming along - almost like the bass-player thinks he's getting paid per note!

Kind of a Glen Campbell-era classy country sound and vibe. I think I like this version best, so far... who knows who might come along to do version of this version of that version of I'm confused already! ;)
THE GIFT - key C
An architect in Bakersfield gave him a gift of wine
Napa Valley, California, famous for the vine
When the grape is coupled with the peach, the promise is divine
But he would never pull the cork as he alone would dine…
sounds good. the lyrical tweaks worked. the production is simple and effective. the vocals on the last verse seem to be punched in and out a lot, i wasn't sure if you were going for an effect or what, but it distracted me from the song a little. otherwise, that's a gooder 'un.

Now these are some interesting lyrics. The music is rather dark and sad in its delivery. It's a good mixing/mastering job -- chilling! I like it, but I sense the pain.
This version was an effort to make it into a country song... an "effort."

You are truly one of the greatest song writers of this decade. Right there with Paul Simon and Gordon Lightfoot in my opinion. All I can say off that sadness and anger is still strong pray to God for peace as only he holds the way to you being able to let b it go. You can't change other people or events that have happened, but you can learn to forgive and change how YOU react to them. If you ever feel nobody cares or will listen, call me. I'll find time and make the time to meet with you or listen over the phone. Don't let depression or anger beat you down for too long old friend.

Sometimes you post a song with a link that brings up an album. I don't always listen to the full album because of the rush of life. But I'm trying to remember one of the very recent ones ... I think it (the song)_ was called "Sometime". It is so beautifully poetic and the feeling is passed along so gracefully. It is truly an expression of sweet sorrow, or more accurately, a sweet expression of the numbing pain of loss. It is the thing that my story songs just don't quite do. Lazarus Knight

The mood of this song reminds me of John Denver's "Perhaps Love." He explained that he wrote it when he was no longer in a relationship but that, while there was sorrow and pain, there was also the beautiful memory of love to see him through. You've captured the bittersweetness -so different from melancholy - of the best haiku poems.

Beautiful and Haunting.
It is not we, who summon ghosts from the past. Rather it is we who haunt our past. It's like going back to the present.
In some instances, I suffer from being the perpetrator and can't avoid picking at the scab.
But that's just me.

Wow! Amazing!! Really powerful song. All the best to those who were in your mind as you wrote this one.
Love the chorus on this! Gonna be the song in my head today!!!
Good one....
Nice one, like it. Is there a February write-a-song thing? Cos I've written one too! (Might be September before I've finished recording it, though...)
I love the music and I totally adore the poetry!
Powerful message, and it just keeps coming in today's time. . . .all in the name of God.
Great song! Such visual lyrics and powerful melody!
R O C K - O N!!! A song of social conscious, like we use to write in the '60s! Great lyrics, great sounds, great attitude = GREAT JOB!
You create some stunning stuff.
Very short and sweet - love it.
I LOVE this.

The Glen Campbell-John Hartford era reference is spot on. I dig it

Bittersweet. Dark, painful, but beautiful. Very well recorded -- mixed and mustered with great care and taste.

This is a great song! Creates a great visual with the lyrics.
An interesting progression of chords. Good lyrics. Nice vocal mix.
Cool tune, it does make me happy!

John R. Thielges I think you bring poetry to grief; in an unique way. "Help" and hickory sticks. Thank you.
Raechel Frice James Michael Taylor the story telling aspect of your songs/lyrics remind me of John Denver. This is meant as a compliment.
Paul Smith James Michael Taylor I freaking love your music.
Randy Brown I think everyone was hesitant to encourage the final solution. I love the melody and the sadness of the lyrics.

Brian Gagnon I fought this feeling by staying angry. 30+ years later, I'm still angry.
