Turning, Returning

Feeling a bit drained by the 2010 RPM Challenge and overwhelmed by the wide assortment of music it leaves in its wake, I recorded this tune. At first, this was an attempt to experiment with creating my own convolution reverb samples, but it turned into a mind-numbing, everything/nothing all at once kind of thing. I can imagine seeing each of the various Alonetone artists’ RPM Challenge album covers drifting through space while listening to this.

For the highly-processed vocal track, I used a recording of the Apollo 11 astronauts discussing the Moon as they were first approaching it. I also used a nifty (and free!) “Live Cut” plugin that adds semi-random breaks to the drumbeat. That same plugin was used on the initial sound you hear on this track. That sound was initially a bunch of sloppy drum hits, but it doesn’t sound anything like that now because I used only the “wet” signal output (from a couple of convolution reverb plugins) and completely removed the original “dry” signal.

Spacey soundscapes, and starry too - the percussion and astronaut interlocutors sound amazing. Very clever mix all over.

Wow. Just read the 'about' section. Love the whole idea but it amazes me the things that you alonetoners do to create sounds - just brilliant. My own head just can't get there yet. Keep it up GCD. Magic. sixmilewide member
