Recorded in 2006.
Joe Silence - guitars, beats, vocals
Mark Cook - fretless and 12-string basses
Originally written by Russell Cowser.

I wrote and recorded the original extremely low-fi tape at home in 1984 on a Tascam four-track.. Its flattering to have others recording their own versions. Its also interesting how different people hear the lyrics differently. For example the line sung here as "spotlight on a wake" was actually "spotlights on a wig" as i wrote it. Lol. Thanks for covering my greatest non-hit.
Recorded in 2005.
The keyboard sound in the second half is a backwards electric piano processed through a triggered filter (kind of like a Mutron III).
Muted the vocals cos I'm not too pleased with the lyrics or performance.
Rough mix of a work in progress that has been gestating since late May 2013. still working out the lyrics/vocal parts. dunno if there will eventually be keys and/or synths.

"Danse Macabre (first performed in 1875) is the name of opus 40 by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns."
synths used:
- Korg DW-8000
- Roland D-50
- Emu Proteus 1000
the last time i will EVER do this much tedious MIDI sequencing. so over it…

That sounds like a lot of work. Probably a great learning experience, but yeah I imagine you're not interested in doing that sort of thing again anytime soon!
this is me working out the opening and chorus of a new song for a band i just kinda rejoined. figured i'd post since there's a certain rockness to it that i find appealing. i'll post the completed tune later, but first i gotta reorganise my…

Recorded in 2008.
Fuzz guitar through an old DDL into a pitch transposer, recorded in one pass with no edits or overdubs.
Just a minute noodle doodle, really, but it's gonna go somewhere.
Honest!
thick and hairy track stem transfer from a 16 year old multitrack tape.
i plan on doing a few overdubs and a few brutal edits in the name of a new arrangement.
i need more rock in my life.
yes, there will be vocals.
this is the mix so far, pending a new vocal to replace the guide and a 12-string part.
maybe a bit of piano?
lyrics from the muted vocal are about seeing the ex you upended your life to help out in the arms of another. cheery!
tik-tok…
Looking forward to hearing the final track! Love the melancholy I hear so far, and the mix is attention-grabbing and bitter sweet. That probably makes no sense.

I like how the bass and drums are mixed in this. Sounds like some of the snare hits weren't synced up with the bass a few times, but should be fairly easy to fix.
tracked 7 years ago, in the same vein as "A Brain Haemorrhage Would Be A Birthday Present".
-modified toy keyboard into a resonant filter with LFO mod into a Boss DD-3 DDL pedal, all tweaked as part of the performance.
-beat is from an old…

This dark reggae tune has been hanging around in my "works in progress" folder for a while, but I was finally inspired to complete it when I borrowed a guitar from my friend Joe. Thanks, Joe!

Found this one while clearing out the cobwebs prior to the 2011 RPM Challenge. It appears to be as finished as its going to get, sooo... here it is.
In short: a quirky love song for our cybernetic brothers and sisters who dance to a different beat.
Recorded in 2009 for the RPM Challenge.
Joe Silence - flying slide guitars, tweaked beatbox, spastic echo torture and toy keyboard mutilation
This was recorded to cassette 4-track and then dumped to DAW for clean-up and mixing.
Recorded and mixed by Joe Silence at Spit Recorders in 1998.
I deny any responsibility for the lyrics.
Tom Higgins - vocal
Joe Silence - guitars, bass and foley
(can't remember his name!) - drums
I would do a new mix of this (to remedy…
This is the first outing of a new granular re-synthesis based Reaktor ensemble I am working on codenamed "BD".
The track is generated by 4 instances of the ensemble (playing different samples), panned by CamelSpace, with lashings of Valhalla…
Felt the need to go back to something more sound driven.
I've been learning a lot of new Jazz chords and wondered what they might sound like as pads. I ended up creating a device chain in Ableton Live featuring Alchemy, Omnisphere, and Absynth…
An ambient guitar piece done rather quickly, warts and all.
Stems from ideas I've been developing on my new JamMan looper pedal (catnip for guitarists if there ever was such a thing).

Has kind of a demo quality at the beginning, but develops nicely!
I dig it. Has an epic feel.
Wooo - I like what you've got so far
...yes, the night the dead are raised to dance their macabre dance - not a piece for guitar, I think. Nicely done.
@sluggthesickpuppy: i'd play it on guitars if it lent itself to being played on guitar. if you want to tackle it, be my guest.
now play it on guitars
nice

This is great, brings me back, refreshing.
Where is the rest....?
Very Cool!
Great vibe - looking forward to hearing more!
Yah Joe!
What a great rocking track!

Excellent!

I like when this settles down into an epic drone. Unfortunately, it sounds like the aliens also have houseflies! Or perhaps ARE houseflies. Hrmm.

this sounds positively haunted. really digging it.

YAH! evocative. what did you use for this?
ohh, chill-out time!
Ooohhhh, yeeeeaaah...!
thank you, Mr. Cowser!
*waves hands with outstretched fingers* the colours...!
i like how blown out it all sounds, like cheap mixer abuse. fur and hair! *twitches on floor*
if i left this on repeat all night i might take up painting again. this is a good thing.
@SS: thanks! @BL: i think it was Sleep Lab? failed to complete in both 2009 and 2010. right now i'm using the name Joe Silence and plan to keep it.
Actually, I was wrong about the date. This recording was done in 1998, not 2001.
i like it. *calls therapist for crisis counselling*
it's often the imperfections that make art come alive. digging this.
love this! what tuning did you use?
enjoyed this. wish i'd been there to applaud. also, i went to that church until sometime in 1982. apparently it was very different back then. :D
loving the sounds and atmosphere. i gotta listen again.
I think i could listen to this all day.
This is making me float away. Really loving this.
love this!
