Your Little Girl's Eyes
Inspired by Tess’ little Morwenna and my (getting bigger) Jessica. Writing back and forth with Bethan, I came to realize that a song needed to be written about the significance of the statements that so often come from the mouths of babes.
YOUR LITTLE GIRL’S EYES
Little darling spends the week at Grandma’s
They only get together once in a while
Little darling’s still too young to know there’s no forever
So even though it’s time to leave she can’t help but smile
Her momma has her turn to say goodbye for now
She sees that saddened look in Grandma’s eyes
And that little darling gives her one last hug and sweetly tells her, “It’s okay, Grandma… You’ll feel much better once you’ve cried.”
Daddy takes his little girl up mountains
So she can know the finest things in life are sometimes free
For every step she’s taken, he’s been smiling in amazement
At the graceful little angel she’s been turning out to be
Sitting on the summit, looking out on open spaces
Daddy knows there’s never been a better time
He asks her ‘bout the view and she just looks off in the distance
and says, “Being where we are now… wouldn’t mean as much if it wasn’t for the climb”
From the mouths of babes will come the wisdom
That only careful ears will recognize
And though you might not hear it you can be sure you’re near it
When you take the time to look in your little girl’s eyes
My little girl was awful quiet
In the minutes after coming into the world
I thought she looked all right lying there beneath the lights
But until I heard her I just couldn’t be sure
I rubbed her tiny head and tickled at her feet
I can’t tell you just how hard I tried
Not to get too worried that I still hadn’t heard her
And in an instant I went from praying hard to thanking God when she cried
From the mouths of babes will come the wisdom
That only careful ears will recognize
And though you might not hear it you can be sure you’re right near it
When you take the time to look in your little girl’s eyes
I'm hangin in there. Just the old job...crazy as always. I think I need to change things up so I will have more free time. ;) Good song. Nice clear vocals.
Great song!
This song makes me want to cry. You know there's bot much that does that to me so kudos on another great track!! -Britt
This is so poignant. Surprising where some of the best songs come from.
This song has got me bro.... I feel Quite emtional listening to it! The "My little girl was awful quiet" Verse reminds me of when the boy was a new born... It's like a High definition Picture of Life. You are an excellent Storey teller bro. And a True Tallent! I'm Gonna be listening to this a lot!
<3 and x x Wonderful song, special words, Keith! Much more gentle than the actual words spoken by Morwenna, which were, 'Don't worry, you'll sleep after you've cried.' :-D
What wonderful lyrics Keith. Lovely song indeed.
