The drums on the Coffee with a little sugar song are all Norm. I took one of his drum beats and added some bass and guitar. All of my other songs are done with synth, using good real/digital/ samples and the program fruity loops.

Hey Richard - for Rumba - the guitar tunings are standard so if you want to play along on your piano it should work. If I remember correctly Brian laid down a basic I-IV-V in D major. I put 7th chords on top of that.

This is a blues riff I've been playing with for a while. I wanted to start with a slow style blues. I'm working on a sped up dance version. So I threw down some rough lyrics and did a quick demo recording, added a solo and a small vocal backup…
"hang on to your hopes my friend",,, what a great line, in such a powerfully personal tune,, from where did such musical genius rise,, ive listened to this several times now,, your take is highly artistic,, a very beautiful take on a beautiful song well well done Richard
Norm has been teaching a master's class in percussion and gave me (a lot!!) of guidance to try to add bass properly to this. I added 5 string bass, Fender Mustang and GR-20 sax to his excellent Tumbao track. We hope you enjoy it.
A 7/8 improvisation on a set of 3 Bata drums, accented with afucha, tube shekere and cowbell.
The number 7 is a symbol for perfection or completeness: 7 colors in a rainbow, 7 musical notes in a scale, 7 days = a week, etc.

A single track of improvised chromatically tuned congas in 7/8, accented with clave, guiro, cajon and quinto.
(For those who may be interested in collaborating on this, the triplet phrasing of this groove may be most easily counted like this…
very cool,, two or three or how many congas? some of it sounds like beats on the out side of the skin and some from the center,, im trying to picture the technique,,, have you ever made a video of your play?? i think it would be fun to watch,,, well hit R
Reg took a collaboration from Chris Vaisvil, Norm and threw it into the cellar last night and this is what was returned through Regs door this morning...... a tale from the old wild west.........................
This is about the free spirit soaring high above the seas, forests, cities and times.
~There is no dark side in the moon, really. As a matter of fact it's all dark~
wonderful playing,,,the first piano part is particularly well constructed, recording or midi? the sound is great, the synth/electric organ? adds a very different sound style,,, also very nice, i think if it was me, i might have made them into 2 different pieces,, (but that's me) id love to hear your thinking on this creative decision... take care Richard
yes touching and beautiful,,,you do great justice,, to what is one of my most favorite songs,,, the song it self is such a wonderful combination of music and lyrics,,, your style/treatment is very fine..
For Debbie, written (just) before I met her.

This traditional Cuban rhythm is the well established "go-to" pattern for 4/4 songs. It is perhaps the most commonly heard conga pattern in 4/4 music. The bongo pattern that accompanies the congas is referred to as "martillo" (the hammer…

My father brought a koto back from Japan after WWII, I thought this might be a good time…
