Crow's Nest
If you leave me behind I’ll have a crow’s nest of a life
Filled with things that sparkle and flash,
Rusty nails and old tin cans
Sure, they’re pretty when they get wet
But it ain’t the most comfortable bed
Unless you’re here
I’ve been down so long I can’t even tell what’s real from what’s fake
This river in my head is an oxbow lake
It ain’t going nowhere
Should I sink into the ground and dry?
Or evaporate into the sky?
I don’t care
Crushed by the power of a word not spoken
The beauty of a butterfly’s wing broken
Busted and broken is my favorite state
To begin putting it all back in it’s right place
And what if one day it stops working and goes away?
The ground just crumbles with every step
The closer that I get to the edge
Is it fate or circumstance?
C’mon now give me just one more chance
While I’m still here
I’m about to drown in all of this junk I found
I was an emperor for a time
Built a kingdom up in my mind
But your laughter said it all
Every tower is bound to fall
To the ground
