My opus. By far the longest song I've ever recorded. I tried to make it shorter, but it just didn't work. Sorry. :)
"The Water-Carver" uses a sample from Stereolab's "Changer." (Gane/Sadier)
I guess this would be the "centerpiece" of the album. Like the rest of the album it really stumbles along the line between droney and simply repetitive, and it needs a bit of a reworking to reach its potential.
“Away”
Into the feelings we woke up today
there is an unexplored corner,.
Here we discover our perfect secret place
to release what we said
into our room my thoughts turn rugged drops
so I learn to talk with body words
Check your movements…
A jazz tune featuring flute, sax, and one slightly out of whack Fender. All instruments played by Barry Morgan and the song was mixed and mastered in his home studio.
This was written for RPM 2009, mostly in January and was inspired by from a mix of current events and personal journey.
Lyrics:
The Queen of Pearls is wearing diamonds
up and down her fingers
She holds the door to the castle
where memories…
this song was inspired from an ee cummings poem. it was composed for rpm 2009.
lyrics:
i'll tell you a dream i had once
up in the sky blue everything
flying away a kite on a string
i didn't have anything
i was cool you were warm…
hey man, another cool tune...they're all great actually...i love your mandolin playing throughout the album too! well, you know i'm partial to that...love all the lyrics too
I heard someone say to an undergraduate class, 'you're on your way to everywhere' and I loved that line. This is sort of a Beatle-esque tune. My friend Mike Levine stopped by while recording a showed me a new jig on the mandolin. I recorded…
The lyrics were co-written with Mike Novak. I sent him the music, and we worked from there. I've done that a bunch with friends from Canada (Me Man Jack - check them out) and its fun to collaborate..

Very clever musical bed for this - samples played backwards, right? Either way, the overall effect has that lovely carefree outdoors feel. Really enjoyed this track.
An RPM 2009 song. Well, this was a personal story for me that came about when your past intersects (briefly) with the present.
Lyrics:
20 years running through time and I remember
all the magic lines
that in our younger days
we drew…
I can completely appreciate this tune, not just because its for the RPM challenge, but also because the message is an important one that I feel more people should hear and share. Very fun track!
one of those 'it was written even before i started' songs that just rolls out like magic
i tried to keep it simple so as not to destroy the vibe
first finished (if unmixed) track for RPM 2010

Out there, but very cool!
Great song-writing all through your album - but this is a standout for me. Excellent all round - and a wonderfully understated, effortless vocal.
I don't know the poem, but these lyrics are wonderful.

This is a fun album! Almost makes me wish we still had a little one (not..). This track in particular evokes Eno.
